Long shifts place repeated demand on the same muscle groups. For nurses, care assistants, retail staff, hospitality workers and anyone spending hours on their feet, stiffness is often the result of accumulated load rather than one dramatic event.
Why The Body Feels Heavy After A Shift
Standing, walking, bending, lifting and reaching all create low-level muscular work. When recovery time is short, tension can build in the calves, lower back, hips, shoulders and neck.
What Helps Most
Gentle movement, hydration, adequate rest and treatment focused on the areas carrying the most load can help. The aim is not simply to relax the body, but to identify where movement is becoming restricted and address it early.
